Why is glyceryl trinitrate used?
Glyceryl trinitrate (also known as nitroglycerin) is used to prevent or treat acute chest pain (angina) caused by heart problems. It can also be used to treat high blood pressure.
Do not use glyceryl trinitrate:
• If you are allergic to glyceryl trinitrate, other nitrates, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
• If you suffer from low blood pressure.
• If you are suffering from a low blood volume (due to severe blood loss).
• If you suffer from high blood pressure in the head.
• If you have inflammation of the outer lining of the heart or pressure on the heart.
• You were suffering from anemia.
• If you are taking medication to treat erectile dysfunction, such as sildenafil.
• If you are taking a drug such as riociguat (guanylate cyclase stimulator).
Precautions and warnings:
Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including if you have:
• If you have heart problems.
• If you have thyroid problems.
• If you suffer from severe liver or kidney problems.
• If you suffer from glaucoma.
Possible side effects:
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a skin rash; itching; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency with which these side effects occur is unknown.

• Nausea after the injection

• Irregular heartbeat with the injection.

Glyceryl trinitrate interacts with the following drugs:
Sildenafil and similar drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction
• Medications used to treat depression
• Medications such as morphine
• Guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat.
• Medications used to treat high blood pressure
• Medications used for migraines such as ergotamine.
How to use glyceryl trinitrate:
• Use this medication as directed by your doctor.
• Place the patch on a clean, dry, hair-free area.
• The injection is given as an intravenous infusion over a certain period of time.
• The injection dosage is determined by the doctor.
• For the patch, the usual dose is one or two patches per day.
How to store glyceryl trinitrate:
• Store at room temperature of 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 25 degrees Celsius).
• Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton.
